Inquiry Dispute Playbook: Authorized vs Unauthorized

Sort hard inquiries into authorized and unauthorized, then dispute only those with no permissible purpose.

What is inside

  • A sort table for authorized and unauthorized inquiries
  • The client questions that decide whether an inquiry is disputable
  • A sample inquiry dispute letter with the line that keeps it honest

Who it is for: Credit repair owners and dispute staff reviewing hard inquiries on client reports.

Questions

Is every hard inquiry disputable?

No. An inquiry tied to a permissible purpose, such as an application the client made, is not inaccurate because it appears on the report.

What if the client does not remember applying?

Ask the client to check their documents and emails first. If no link to a request exists, write to the inquiring company for its permissible purpose before you dispute.
